- Moses was DELAYED coming down from the mountain…
  - Israel demanded Aaron make them a god they could SEE…
  - He made them a Golden Calf and told Israel this is the god who brought you out of Egypt!
- The Lord told Moses – go down – YOUR people have sinned.
  - Moses shattered the tablets of stone – and all who would not repent were executed…
  - The day the Law was given to Israel – 3000 people died!
  - The day of PENTECOST – 3000 people were given new life – II Corinthians 3:6

Reconfirming the covenant… (5 points)

1^st – A second chance… vs. 1
1st- aNG ikaduwa nga chansa…vs.1
- God commanded Moses to cut two stone tablets…
- Ang Ginoo nagsugo kay Moises nga magbasbas sang duha ka malapad nga bato…
- Moses had broken the FIRST tablets – when Israel rebelled with the Golden calf…
- Si Moises nag guba sang NAHAUNA nga bato- sang ang mga Israelinhon nagrebelde sa pagsimba sa Bulawan na baka..
- God would write His Laws AGAIN on the tablets – reconfirming His covenant with Israel…
- Ang Ginoo magasulat sang Iya kasuguan LIWAT sa duha ka bato- ang pagbag-o sang Iya nga kasugtanan sa mga taga Israelinhon…
- The Law represented the contract between God and Israel – a binding agreement…
- Ang Kasuguan nagarepresentar sang kontrata sa tunga sang Ginoo kag sang Israelinhon- ang pag gapos sang kasugtanan..
- If Israel kept the Law of God – then they would be the people of God…
- Kon ang Israelinhon gintipigan ang kasuguan sang Ginoo- kag sila mangin katawhan sang Ginoo..
- Since they broke the contact the FIRST time around – God was giving them a SECOND chance…
- Sang una nga ila ginguba ang NAHAUNA nga kontrata- ang Ginoo magahatag sa ila sang IKADUWA nga chansa..
- God is never surprised by our mistakes – when we choose to disobey Him…
- Ang Ginoo wala na nagakibot sang aton mga sala- kon aton pagapilion nga indi Siya pagsundon..
- He knows we are sinners – remembers we are just dust – Psalms 103:14
- Kabalo Siya nga kita makasasala- aton dumdomon nga kita isa lamang ka yab-ok- Salmo 1-3:14
- The really good news is – when we mess up – God is the God of SECOND chances…
- Ang matuod nga maayong balita amo ang- kon kita may sala- ang Ginoo magahatag sang IKADUWA nga chansa..
- There is always GRACE – there is always HOPE – if only we are willing to turn back to God!
- May ara gid permi GRASYA-may ara man permi PAGLAOM- kon kita gusto manumbalik sa Ginoo!
2^nd – Name of the Lord… vs. 2-9
2^nd– ang ngalan sang Dios..vs.2-9
- 1^st– Early in the morning… vs. 2-4
- 1^st– kaagahon…vs.2-4
  - Moses was commanded to come up the mountain again and meet with God – ALONE…
  - Si Moises ginmanduan sang Ginoo nga magsaka liwat sa bukid kag makipagkita sa Ginoo – nga naga ISAHANON..
  - Moses cut the TWO stone tablets – got up EARLY – and went to meet the Lord!
  - Si Moises nagbasbas sang DUWA ka malapad nga bato- nagbangon AGA pa- kag makipagkita sa Dios!
  - Psalm 63:1 – “O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You…”
  - Salmo 63:1- O Dios, ikaw ang akon Dios; Ginapangita ko gid ikaw; Nauhaw ang akon bilog nga kabuhi sa imo….
  - There is wisdom in seeking the Lord early in the morning – Psalm 63:1
  - May ara sang kaalam sa pagpangita sa Ginoo sa kaagahon- Salmo 63:1
  - It is a good way to START our day – before we get BUSY and find we have NO more time…
  - Amo ini ang maayo nga pamaagi sa PAGSUGOD sang aton adlaw- antes kita mangin maSAKO kag aton matalupangdan nga WALA na kita tiun..
  - But it is not about WHEN we seek– the key is THAT we consistently seek the Lord!
  - Pero indi ina parte kon DIIN ang aton ginauna- ang yabi SINA kita nagapadayon nga gina-una pangita ang Dios!
- 2^nd – Three times… vs. 5-6
- 2^nd– Tatlo ka besis..vs.5-6
  - When Moses arrived – the Lord descended in a cloud – and stood there with him…
  - Sang pag-abot ni Moises- ang Dios nagpanaog paagi sa panganod- kag nagatindog kaupod niya…
  - God then PROCLAIMED the NAME of the Lord…
  - Ang Ginoo sa gilayon NAGSILING sang NGALAN sang DIOS..
  - The Lord appears THREE times in VERSE 4 – the three-fold nature of God!
  - Ang DIOS nagpakigkita sang TATLO ka besis sa VERSE 4- ang tatlo ka
  - We can agree to disagree about a great many things…
  - Pwede kita magpasugot ukon indi magpasugot parte sa madamo nga mga butang..
  - There is great diversity within the Body of Christ – I Corinthians 12:27
  - Kita nga tumuluo amo ang Lawas ni Cristo- I Corinto 12:27
  - And we can agree to disagree and a VAST collection of non-essentials…
  - Kag kita magpasugot asta sa indi magpasugot kag may ara nga DAKO nga pagtipon sang mga indi-kinahanglanon..
  - But the doctrine of the TRINITY – is the RED line that cannot be crossed…
  - Pero ang doctrina sang TATLO KA PERSONA- amo ang PULA nga linya nga indi ka makatabok…
  - Cults will say they believe in Jesus – but it is NOT the Jesus of the Bible!
  - Ang mga kulto nagahambal nga sila nagapati kay Jesus- pero INDI si Jesus nga sa Biblia!
  - They deny Jesus is God – deny the triune nature of God the Father / Son / Spirit!]
  - Ila ginpaniwala si Jesus nga ila Ginoo- ginpanginwala ang tatlo ka parte sang Ginoo/ Amay/ Anak, Espirito!]
- 3^rd – Character of God… vs. 6-7
- 3^rd– Ang Pamatasan sang Ginoo..
  - The Lord passed before Moses…
  - Ang DIOS naglabay kay Moises…
  - Lord [יְהוָה] – used over 5300x in OT – refers to His CHARACTER…
  - DIOS [יְהוָה]- nagamit sobra 5300x sa OT- nagatumod sang Iya PAMATASAN..
  - The word YHVH comes from the Hebrews word TO BE [verb] …
  - Ang tinaga nga YHVH naghalin sa Hebreo nga tinaga NGA MANGIN[verb]
  - Meaning the name of God is a VERB – He is the becoming one…
  - Buot silingon ang tinaga nga Ginoo naghalin sa VERB- Siya ang nangin isa..
  - God is whatever we need Him to be in the moment we need it!
  - Ang Ginoo bisan ano aton kinahanglanon naton Siya sa tiun kinanglan naton ina!
  - God give Moses SEVEN aspects of His CHARACTER!
  - Ang Ginoo naghatag sang PITO ka bahin sang Iya PAMATASAN!
  - 1 – MERCIFUL – [רַחוּם] – a deep LOVE that causes one to have COMPASSION…
  - 1.MALULUY-ON– [רַחוּם]- ang madalom nga GUGMA nga nagakabangdanan nga may ara sing isa ka KALUOY…
  - Often people make the mistaken assumption – the God of the OT is all wrath…
  - Kon kis a ang mga tawo nagahimo sang sala nga pagpati- ang Ginoo sa OT puno sing kaakig….
  - At the same token they assume Jesus and the NT are all Love…
  - Kag pareho man nga sila naghaom haom nga si Jesus sa NT puno sing gugma…
  - But there is no difference – there is only one God of both the OT and the NT…
  - Pero wala sing kinalain- May ara lang sang isa ka Ginoo sa OT kag sa NT…
  - Jesus in the NT tells us He did not come to bring peace – but the sword – Matthew 10:34
  - Si Jesus sa NT nagahambal nga wala Siya nagkadto sa kalibutan sa paghatag sang kalinong- kundi ang pagkontrahanay– Mateo 10:34
  - God in the OT wanted was MERCIFUL – He had a deep love for Israel!
  - Ang gusto sang Ginoo sa OT amo ang mangin MALULUY-ON- may ara Siya sang madalom nga gugma sa Israelinhon!
  - 2 – GRACIOUS – [חַנּוּן] – to have FAVOR towards someone…
  - 2.MAINAYUHON- [חַנּוּן] – may ara sing PABOR sa isa ka tawo…
  - The idea being you give someone a GIFT – NOT because they deserve it…
  - Ang Ideya pareho nga naghatag ka sa isa ka tawo sang REGALO- INDI kay tungod ina nagakabagay sa iya..
  - It is someone that is given in SPITE of what they have done – Ephesians 2:8-9
  - Ang isa nga ginhatagan sa PIHAK sang ila ginhimo- – Efeso 2:8-9
  - 3 – LONGSUFFERING – [אָרֵךְ] – to be SLOW to anger…
  - 3-MAINANTUSON- [אָרֵךְ] – indi DASIG ma akig…
  - One of the hardest things about being a dad – is having to punish our kids…
  - Isa sa mabudlay nga butang parte sa isa ka Amay- amo ang magpina sang aton kabataan…
  - Seeing their downcast faces – their doubt and fear – but when they ask for forgiveness…
  - Nga makita ang ila masinulub-on nga guya- ang ila nga pagduha duha kag kahadlok- pero kon sila mangayo sang kapatawaran…
  - One of my favorite things to do as a Dad – is hold my baby and sing to her / reassure her…
  - Isa sa pinakanamian ko nga himuon bilang isa ka Amay- amo ang pagkungkong sang akon bata kag kantahan siya/ pagpasalig sa iya….
  - Hold her in my arms – broad smile on my face – so she knows everything will be ok!
  - Kapyutan siya sa akon kamot- malipayon nga makita sa akon hitsura- para nga mabal-an niya nga ang tanan ok lang!
  - God is not a ANGRY father who thrives on the punishing His children…
  - Ang Ginoo indi MAAKIGON nga Amay nga kon sa diin Iya ginakontrolar ang pagpina sang Iya kaanakan…
  - It breaks the heart of our Heavily Father when He has to punish His kids…
  - Masakitan ang taguipusuon sang aton Langitnon nga Amay kon Siya magapina sang Iya mga kaanakan….
  - And He is quick to forgive – scoop us up in His loving arms and comfort!
  - Kag madasig Siya nga magpatawad- ginkuha Niya kita sang Iya mahigumaon nga kamot kag ginapaumpaw!
  - Psalm 103:8 – “The LORD… is slow to get angry and full of unfailing love.”
  - Salmo 103:8– “Ang DIOS… indi dali mangakig kag mahigugmaon”.
  - 4 – Abounding in GOODNESS [חֶסֶד] – the act of LOVING others…
  - 4- Napun-an sing KAAYOHAN [חֶסֶד]- pagpakita sang PAGHIGUGMA sa iban…
  - How do we know God abounds in GOODNESS – He proved it through His LOVE…
  - Paano naton mahibaluan nga ang Ginoo puno sing KAAYOHAN- Iya ina ginpamtud an paagi sang Iya GUGMA….
  - I John 4:8 – “…for God is Love!”
  - I John 4:8-”….kay ang Dios Gugma!
  - I John 4:10 – “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” [NLT]
  - I John 4:10- Amo ini ang matuod nga gugma- indi nga kita ang naghigugma sa Dios, kundi ang Dios amo ang naghigugma sa aton, gani ginpadala niya ang iya Anak bilang halad para mabayaran ang aton mgtga sala.”[ NLT]
  - It was the GOODNESS of God that drove the Father to sacrifice His Son on the cross…
  - May ara sing KAAYOHAN sa Ginoo nga nagpadala sing iya Amay para magsakripisyo ang Iya Anak sa Krus…
  - The perfect picture of LOVE – the Cross of Jesus Christ…
  - Ang perpekto nga palanggiran sang GUGMA- ang Krus ni Jesus Christ…
  - It is Love that held Jesus to the cross – so that we could have eternal life!
  - May ara sing Gugma sang si Jesus ginlansang sa Krus- para kita may ara sing kabuhi nga wala sing katapusan!
  - 5 – Abounding in TRUTH [אֱמֶת] – to be firm / faithful / the TRUTH…
  - 5- Napun-an sing KAMATUORAN[אֱמֶת] – para mangin malig-on/ matutom/ sa KAMATUORAN…
  - The TRUTH is not an idea – it is a PERSON – Jesus is THE TRUTH – John 14:6
  - Ang KAMATUORAN indi ideya- ina isa ka PERSONA- si Jesus amo ang KAMATUORAN– Juan 14:6
  - We live in a world that would love to question TRUTH – there are no absolutes…
  - Kita nagaestar sa kalibutan nga namian magpamangkot sang KAMATUORAN- wala gid sing…
  - What is right for you / may not be what is right for me – everything is RELATIVE…
  - Kon ano ang inchakto sa imo/ indi nga kon ano ang inchakto sa akon/ ang tanan naga ALANGUTAY…
  - Event Pontius Pilate famously said to Jesus – What is Truth – John 18:38
  - Bisan si Ponsyo Pilato kilala nga nagpamangkot kay Jesus- Ano gid bala ang kamatuoran- Juan 18:38
  - It does not matter what MEN say – the only place where we can find TRUTH is in the WORD!
  - Indi ina importante kon ano ang ginhambal sing TAWO- ang isa lang ka lugar nga kon sa diin naton makita ang KAMATUORAN amo ang PULONG!
  - Romans 3:4 – “Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.”
  - Roma 3:4– Sa pahkamatuod, ang Ginoo masaligan sa gihapon sang iya Pulong pero ang tawo butigon.
  - John 17:17 – “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
  - Juan 17:17– Iseparar sila para mangin Imo paagi sa kamatuoran. Ang Imo Pulong amo ang kamatuoran.
  - 6 – FORGIVING [נָשָׂא] – to lift up or carry – in context to carry away our SINS – TWO kinds…
  - 6- MAPINATAWARON[נָשָׂא]- pagbayaw ukon nagkuha- sa paghangop nagkuha palayo sang aton mga SALA- DUWA ka parte…
  - Iniquity – REBELLION – to willfully disobey the commands and will of God…
  - Kalautan- PAGREBELDE- sing hungod nga paglapas sang mga sugo kag kabubut-on sang Ginoo..
  - Sin – to miss (though not for lack of effort) / or go the wrong by (presumably by accident) …
  - Sala- ginausikan( nga wala sing pagpaningwa)/ ukon nagapakadto sa sala nga pamaagi nga ( naghaom-haom nga ina aksidente lang)….
  - God will forgive ANY sin – rebellion of mistake – if we simply come to Him and ask!
  - Ang Ginoo nagapatawad sang BISAN ano nga sala- rebelde nga sala- kon kita magpalapit sa Iya kag magpangayo!
  - I John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
  - I Juan 1:9-”Pero kon ituad ta sa Dios ang aton mga sala, Masaligan Siya sa pagpatawad sang aton mga sala kag sa pagtinlo sa tanan ta nga kalainan. Himuon Niya ini tungod nga matarong Siya.
  - 7 – JUST – by no means clearing the guilty – God does NOT let sin go unpunished…
  - 7- KAANGAY- indi buot silingon nga makapatinlo sa nakasala- ang Ginoo WALA ginapasugtan nga ang sala indi pagsilutan…
  - People tend to not understand God – they only see the God of Love…
  - ang ila lang gusto makita ang Gugma sang Dios…
  - They think God will let them into heaven – because they try and live a good life…
  - Nagapinsar sila nga pasugtan sila sang Ginoo pa langit- kay tungod sila nagtesting kag nagkabuhi sing maayo…
  - God is Love / but God is also justice – and there has to be a price paid for sin…
  - Ang Dios Gugma/ pero ang Dios man ang Hustisya- kag may ara sing bili nga ginbayad sa sala….
  - Either we pay the DEBT – or someone has to pay for us…
  - Bisan aton pa bayaran ang UTANG- ukon may isa nga magbayad para sa aton…
  - If we do not accept the free gift of His grace – salvation – where He paid our price…
  - Kon infi naton pagbatunon ang libre nga regalo sang Iya nga Grasya- kaluwasan- kon sa diin Iya ginbayaran ang aton bili…
  - Then we are left holding the bill – we choose to pay our debt with our own lives!
  - Kag kita ginbilinan nga nagauyat sang aton balayran- aton ginpili nga bayaran ang aton utang sa aton kaugalingon nga kabuhi…
  - Generational sin…
  - Henerasyon sang sala…
  - God brought the sin of the parents – to the children to the THIRD and FOURTH generation…
  - Ang Ginoo nagdala sang sala sang mga ginikanan- sa mga kabataan sa IKATLO kag sa IKAAPAT nga henerasyon…
  - Does that mean that that God punishes children for the sins of their fathers – NO!
  - Ina buot silingon nga ang Ginoo nagpina sang mga kabataan sa sala sang ila Amay- INDI!
  - Ezekiel 18:20 – "The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.”
  - Ezekiel 18:20- “Ang anak indi dapat silutan tungod sang sala sang iya amay, kag ang amay indi dapat silutan tungod sa sala sang iya anak. Ang matarong nga tawo pagabalusan sa iya matarong nga mga ginahimo, kag ang malain nga tawo pagasilutan sa iya malain nga mga ginahimo.
  - The best interpretation of this would seem to point towards example…
  - Ang pinakanami nga interpretasyon sa sini pareho sa ehemplo sang…
  - If a father gives an example of a sinful life to his kids – they tend to follow…
  - Kon ang amay naghatag sang makasasala nga ehemplo sa iya kabataan- ila ina pagasundon…
  - If we have bad parents – we are NOT bound to repeat their mistakes…
  - Kon may ara kita indi maayo nga ginikanan- WALA kita nagapos nga suliton ang ila mga sala…
  - In Jesus we become new creations – no longer bound to the definition of our past…
  - Sa kay Jesus kita mangin bag-o na nga tinuga- wala na kita nagapos sa kon ano man ang aton nanligad…
  - We now have the example of our Heavenly Father – Jesus defines us – I Corinthians 5:17
  - May ara na kita subong sang sulondan sang aton Langitnon nga Amay-
- 4^th – Prayer of Moses… vs. 8-9
- 4^th-Ang pangamuyo ni Moises…vs.8-9
  - At the REVELATION of the NAME of God – Moses fell down and worshiped [hithpael] …
  - Sa PAHAYAG sang NGALAN sang Ginoo- Si Moises nagluhod kag nagsimba[hithpael]…
  - Lord [אֲדֹנָי] PLEASE go among us [jussive] – the plea was for the MASTER to be with them…
  - Dios [אֲדֹנָי] NAGAPANGABAY ako nga mag-upod ka sa amon[ jussive]- ang pagpangabay sang AGALON sa pag upod sa ila…
  - Moses admitted WE – he includes himself with the children of Israel are STIFF-NECKED…
  - Si Moises ginbaton nga KITA- iya gin upod ang iya kaugalingon kaupod sang kaanakan sang Israelinhon nga mga MATIG-A ANG ULO…
  - STIFF-NECKED – if you have a STIFF NECK – you CANNOT turn around (repent)!
  - MATIG-A ULO- kon ikaw MATIG-A ULO- INDI ikaw makabalikid( makahinulsol)!
  - FORGIVE [perfect] OUR iniquity and sins…
  - PAGPATAWAD[perpekto] sang ATON kalautan kag mga sala…
  - Moses had no part in the CALF rebellion – yet he includes himself in the SINS of the people…
  - Si Moises wala sang parte sa pagrebelde sa BULAWAN NGA BAKA – sa bahin iya gin upod ang iya kaugalingon sa SALA sang mga tawo…
  - And make us [perfect] YOUR inheritance – to be a SPECIAL possession!
  - Kag ginhimo niya kita[ perpekto] sa IMO palanublion- para sa ESPESYAL nga panag-iya!
  - When we pray for others – it is easy to get a feeling of superiority…
  - Kon aton pangamuyuan ang iban- mahapos lang naton makuha ang balatyagon
  - We who are holy – need to lift up those who are obviously so much worse than us…
  - Kita nga mga balaan- nagakinahanglan nga batakon ang kon sin-o ang aton nga makita nga nagakabudlayan kaysa aton..
  - Yet people can tell when we look down on them – and that tends to separate us…
  - Jesus was holier than anyone – yet He sat down and ate with sinners – Mark 2:16
  - Si Jesus ang pinakabalaan sa tanan- sa bahin Siya nagpungko kag nagkaon kaupod ang mga makasasala- Marcos 2:16
  - In order be effective in praying for others – we need to relate to them / not judge them!
  - Para kita mangin epektibo nga nagapangamuyo sa iban- kinahanglan aton sila mainchindihan/ indi nga sila aton husgahan!
3^rd – The contract… vs. 10-17
3^rd– ang kontrata…vs.10-17
- 1^st – The commitment of God… vs. 10
- 1^st– Ang ginsaad sang Ginoo..vs.10
  - BEHOLD – I will make [cut] a COVENANT (contract) …
  - YARI KARON- himuon ko nga[ utdon] ang KASUGTANAN(kontrata)…
  - God would do WONDERS [נִפְלָאֹת] – things never been seen before anywhere on earth!
  - Ang Ginoo makahimo sang MAKATILINGALA [נִפְלָאֹת]- nga mga butang nga wala pa may nakakita bisan diin sa sini nga kalibutan!
  - All the people around would see the AWESOME [fearful] power of God – through Israel!
  - Ang tanan nga mga tawo sa palibot makakita sang MANAMI[ kahaladlok] nga kusog sang Ginoo- paagi sa Israelinhun…
  - When God is doing the work in our lives – there is no limit to what He can accomplish!
  - Kon ang Ginoo nagahimo sing trabaho sang aton kabuhi- wala sing li ktado kon ano ang Iya pwede matuman!
  - But He do WONDERS with us – so that people around us can see HIM in our lives!
  - Pero makahimo Siya sang MAKATILINGALA sa aton- para ang mga tawo nga ara sa aton palibot makita Siya sa aton kabuhi!
  - Ephesians 3:20 – “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”
  - Efeso 3:20-”Dayawon ta ang Dios, tungod nga paagi sa iya gahom nga nagapanghikot sa aton, ang iya ginahimo sobra pa sa aton ginapangayo ukon ginahunahuna.
- 2^nd – The responsibility of Israel… vs. 11-17
- 2^nd– Ang responsibilidad sang Israelinhon…vs.11-17
  - OBSERVE [imperative] – to keep / heed – what I command you this day…
  - PAGTUMAN[omperative]- sa pagtipig/ pagsunod- kon ano ang akon ginsugo sa sini nga adlaw…
  - The problem was they have ALREADY promised to do this – Exodus 24:3
  - Ang problema kay sila nagpromisa na nga DAAN nga himuon nila ini– Exodus 24:3
  - And then in less than FORTY days – they failed miserably – Golden calf!
  - Kag dayon kulang kulang sa FORTY ka adlaw- sila napaslaw nga miserable- sa Bulawana na baka!
  - The Law came up short because it could NOT change their HEART!
  - Ang layi nag-abot sa malip-ot kay tungod INDI na mabag-o ang ila TAGUIPUSUON!
  - Like the mirror that reflects who we are – or measuring tape that shows how tall…
  - Pareho sa espiyo nga nagapakita kon sin-o gid kita- ukon measuring tape nga nagapakita kon ano kita ka taas..
  - The Law can show us we are unrighteous – but CANNOT make us do what is right!
  - Ang layi nagapakita sa aton nga kita indi matarong- pero INDI makapahimo sa aton kon ano ang husto!
  - Do NOT to make a COVENANT…
  - INDI maghimo sang KASUGTANAN…
  - God was driving out the nations living in the Promised Land…

  - Israel was to DESTROY their altars – lest they become a SNARE / TRAP…

  - Then Israel would make a COVENANT with the people – sacrifice [harlot] to their gods…
  - Marry THEIR daughters – who will teach your SONS to play the HARLOT with THEIR gods!
  - For the Lord – whose name is JEALOUS – is a JEALOUS God!
  - Therefore – do NOT make molten gods – reference back to the CALF – Exodus 32:4
  - God desires for us to grow and mature in our faith – get to know Him personally…
  - But we also have a part to play – we need to be wise with who we spend time with…
  - If we are hanging out with the world – before long – we will also act like them!
  - I Corinthians 15:33 – “Bad company corrupts good character.” [NLT]
4^th – The tools… vs. 18-26
- God gave Israel FOUR tools from the Law to help them OBSERVE!
- 1^st – Required FEASTS… vs. 18/22-25
  - Unleavened Bread – remembering the Exodus…
  - God had Israel hold the feast the commemorated the taking away of sin…
  - FIRST day they would sacrifice the PASSOVER lamb…
  - The blood NOT mixed with leaven – none of it could remain until morning…
  - Then for SEVEN days they could eat no leaven (a picture of sin) – Galatians 5:9
  - The FEAST was to be a practical way to REMIND the people…
  - By the BLOOD of the lamb – God had taken away their sin (leaven)!
  - All men had to attend THREE feasts EVERY year…
  - FEAST of Weeks – what we know as PENTECOST…
  - FEAST of INGATHERING – also known as the FEAST of Tabernacles…
  - FEAST of FIRST FRUITS – on the last day of FEAST of Unleavened Bread!
  - An occasion reminder was NOT enough – they were consistent…
  - Hearing about Jesus once in a while is NOT enough – we need constant reminding!
  - No one will COVET your land…
  - When the Jews went to celebrate the Feasts – they were safe from DEFEAT…
  - No nation that attacked them would be able to conquer them…
  - Just the opposite – their borders would be enlarged – God would drive out the nations!
  - October 6 – 1973 – Israel was surprise attacked on the Holy Feast of Yom Kippur…
  - A coalition of Arab nations led by Egypt and Syria – tried to wipe Israel out…
  - But in an amazing turn of events – not only did Israel regroup and win the war…
  - They gained land – the borders of Israel grew because of the attack!
  - We never LOOSE when we put the Lord first – it ALWAYS brings blessings…
  - Gods Word is absolute – if God says it – you can count on it!
- 2^nd – The FIRST BORN… vs. 19-20
  - Every male ANIMAL had to be sacrificed to the Lord – every SON redeemed…
  - Because when God brought the TENTH and final plague on Egypt – the Death Angel…
  - God spared all the FIRSTBORN sons of Israel through the blood of the lamb…
  - In effect He PURCHASED those sons (both man and animal) by saving them…
  - Every FIRSTBORN son had to be redeemed – a sacrifice offered in his place – Luke 2:21
  - A picture of Jesus Christ…
  - It seems an odd REMINDER – always having to sacrifice or redeem the FIRSTBORN sons…
  - But it was meant to be a picture that pointed us to Jesus…
  - That only through the sacrifice of the FIRSTBORN Son of God – could we be redeemed!
  - We no longer sacrifice animals – but we can still be reminded not to compromise…
  - We REMEMBER what salvation cost – the FIRSTBORN – Jesus had to die to save us…
  - It was not nails that held Him on the cross – but our sins…
  - When we think of what Jesus gave up for us – it helps us live for Him!
- 3^rd – The SABBATH… vs. 21
  - The purpose of the Sabbath was to give a day for Israel to REST…
  - But it was a rest that never lasted – the next day you had to go back to work!
  - Jesus fulfilled the Sabbath – He is our REST – Colossians 2:16-17
  - We do NOT have to strive to be good – we have VICTORY over sin…
  - We have true REST – that can only be found in the forgiveness of Jesus Christ!
  - Matthew 11:28 – “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’”
- 4^th – FIRST FRUITS… vs. 26
  - The FIRST FRUITS of the land were to be brought to the Lord…
  - God wanted Israel to give their BEST – so they would have a HEART for Him – Luke 12:34
  - We do not choose where are heart is – we do choose where we put our treasures…
  - Wherever we put our money / time / talents – is where our heart will also be!
  - Our heart follows our investments – our choices dictate what our heart wants!
  - Note – do not BOIL a kid in the milk of its mother…
  - This is the SECOND of THREE times we find this command in the Law…
  - Also – Exodus 23:19 and Deuteronomy 14:21
4^th – The veil… vs. 27-35
- 1^st – 40 days… vs. 27-28
  - Moses was another FORTY days and FORTY nights on the mountain – with NO food or water…
  - God wrote on the TWO stone tablets – the terms of the covenant – the TEN commandments…
  - A written binding contract between God and the Children of Israel!
- 2^nd – Fading GLORY… vs. 29-35
  - When Moses came down – his face SHONE – from the presence of the Lord…
  - SHONE [קָרַן] – 4x in OT (3 in this passage) – to send out rays of light…
  - When the people of Israel saw it – they were AFRAID to come near him…
  - Moses put a VEIL over his face – until he went back into the tent to speak with God!
  - The reason for the VEIL…
  - II Corinthians 3:13– “Moses… put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory… was destined to fade away.” [NLT]
  - The law can only change us for a SHORT time – it can only change the OUTSIDE…
  - It can make us LOOK good (glow) for a time – in the end it does not CHANGE who we are!
  - The power of the SPIRIT…
  - A flashlight might look bright – till you bring it out into the light of the Sun…
  - In the same way the Law might seem good – until it comes into the light of Christ!
  - II Corinthians 3:18 – “All of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed [metamorphoō] into his glorious image.”
  - II Corinto 3:18-
  - Only Jesus can bring lasting CHANGE – a transformed heart and new life…
