John rejoices that believers are walking in the truth and reminds them of the command to love one another. Truth, grace, and obedience belong together: love is expressed by continuing in the commands received from God.
John warns believers to guard against deceivers who deny the truth about Jesus and to remain in Christ's teaching. The lesson considers the limits of hospitality toward false teachers while affirming the joy and importance of personal fellowship.
