Interest in Paul's message grows, but jealousy drives opposition to the gospel. Paul and Barnabas continue toward the Gentiles, showing that rejection need not end faithful ministry, while new believers respond with joy and the Holy Spirit's fullness.
Paul and Barnabas face division in Iconium and then misplaced worship after a healing in Lystra. Refusing to receive glory for themselves, they point the crowd away from idols and toward the living Creator who provides for humanity.
After being stoned and left for dead, Paul continues preaching and returns to strengthen the new disciples. Appointing leaders and reporting God's work to the sending church demonstrate perseverance and the importance of establishing believers beyond their first response of faith.
A dispute over requiring Gentile believers to keep the law brings church leaders together in Jerusalem. Peter's testimony about God's work among the Gentiles affirms that salvation comes through the grace of Jesus, not through a burden of religious requirements.
James connects the Gentile mission with Scripture, and the Jerusalem council sends a letter that avoids placing unnecessary burdens on new believers. Its instructions and encouragement protect fellowship while affirming God's gracious work beyond Israel.
Paul and Barnabas part ways over John Mark, yet the work continues through different missionary teams. Timothy's introduction and the strengthening of the churches highlight developing young leaders and exercising practical wisdom without compromising salvation by grace.
