      • I know a lot of men who have the DEGREE – who are not pastors…
      • A piece of paper on a wall – not matter how pretty – is still just a piece of paper…

      • PATIENT – to be longsuffering – slow to anger – we might say to have a LONG FUSE…
      • Who are we to be slow to anger towards – ALL / EVERYONE – believers and unbelievers…
      • That is not hard when it is someone we like – but it is also for those who irritate us!
      • HOW can we be PATIENT – I Corinthians 13:4 – “Love suffers long [same word]…”
      • WHY should we be PATIENT – because God was VERY PATIENT towards us!
      • I Peter 3:9 – “The Lord … is longsuffering [same word] toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

        • We are to be pursuing Jesus when we are with the believers – at church…
        • We are ALSO to be pursuing Jesus when we are NOT at church (among all men)!

      • Jesus never changes – the same Yesterday / Today / and Forever – Hebrews 13:8
      • So no matter what our circumstances – we can ALWAYS have JOY because of Jesus!

      • But prayer should be a CONSTANT conversation with our Father in heaven…
      • How can we have a relationship with God – if we never take the time to talk to Him…
      • Telling Him about our day – getting to know the God who created us…
      • Prayer is not something we do – it is the definition of how we live our life!
    • 3rd – In everything give THANKS… vs. 18

        • There are two ways we can KNOW the WILL of God – SPECIFIC / GENERAL…

        • I Peter 3:17 – it is the WILL of God we SUFFER for going good…
        • I Thessalonians 4:3 – this is the WILL of God – our SANCTIFICATION…
      • It is the WILL of God that we give THANKS in everything…
        • So often in life – we forget to be thankful for all God has done for us – given to us…
        • We tend to think about all we do not have we think we need – but really just want…
        • If it is a need God would provide – Luke 12:31 – if we do not have it – do not need it!

    • 5th – Do not DESPISE prophecies…vs. 20
      • DESPISE – to think something of little importance – consider insignificant…
      • We are NOT to DESPISE the prophecies of the Bible – they are IMPORTANT!
      • Much like what we have looked at over the past 2 weeks – and again in II Thessalonians!
      • God gave us prophecy not because He wanted us to know what the future held…
      • But so that when the future comes – we see God knew in advance…
      • Because only the Lord is outside of time – only he sees the end from the beginning…
      • The prophecies in the Bible are His fingerprint proving He is the author of the Word!
      • Isaiah 46:9-10 – “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure.”

    • If what I am saying does not agree with the Word – reject it – it is not true!
    • Too often men believe what they are told – because they are looking to a person…
    • We should not just accept the words of pastor – no matter who is teaching…
    • If we only know what the teacher has told us – then our faith is in his words…
    • But if we seek the Bible for the answers – then our faith is in THE Word!

    • Even if they were just talking – other people do not know that…
    • Or sitting down at the drinking table to talk to friends – even if we do not drink…
    • We need to be so careful not ONLY of what we do – but also the APPEARANCE of our actions!
  • 4th – The POWER to obey…. vs. 23-24 (2 points)
    • 1st – May the God of peace SANCTIFY you WHOLLY… vs. 23

      • I was talking with a gentleman this week – discussing resource verses result…
      • There was no question on the results – we are to live a HOLY life – obey the commands…
      • The question comes down to what / who our resource is to live a HOLY life!
      • The Prayer and desire of Paul was that we would be HOLY till that day of the RAPTURE…
      • In other words – we would be found doing all 15 commands we just looked at – and more!
      • But DO NOT MISS what HE gives as the RESOURCE for HOW to live a HOLY life!
    • 2nd – He who called you – will also DO it… vs. 24
      • The one who CALLED us is faithful – He never makes a mistake and never fails…
      • He will also be the one who will DO it – God is the one who makes us HOLY…
      • Philippians 2:13 – “It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
      • So often we get this backwards in our Christian walk – thinking the more we do for God…
      • The more we read our Bible / go to church / pray / give – we will become HOLY…
      • But that is backwards – leads to legalism and defeat – and misses the POINT…
      • Not that reading / praying / church are bad things – but they are the result of what God does…
      • It is not that we HAVE to read / pray / give – to be HOLY…
      • Because God makes us HOLY – we want to do those things – we are His WORKMANSHIP!
      • Ephesians 2:10 – “We are His workmanship [same root], created in Christ for good works…”

2nd – GREET one another… vs. 26

Brethren GREET (imperative) all the brethren with a holy kiss…

It was meant to be a sign of the love within the church – a since of family!

Today we would say GREET one another with a HOLY elbow bump!

3rd – Read the WORD… vs. 27

I CHARGE by the Lord – to take an oath – read this epistle to all the HOLY brethren…

Because it was important that EVERYONE hear the WORD of God!

4th – Grace be with you… vs. 28

The conclusion of the letter – THE GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all…
