The Golden Calf… (6 points)

Ang bulawan nga baka..( 6 points)

• 1^st – Moses was DELAYED… vs. 1-6
• 1^st– si moises nadugayan…vs.1-6
  • 1^st – The people saw that Moses was DELAYED coming from the mountain… vs. 1
  • 1^st– Ang mga tawo natalupangdan nga KADUGAY kay Moises manaog halin sa bukid..vs 1.
    • DELAYED – [כִּֽי־בֹשֵׁשׁ מֹשֶׁה] – to be VERY disappointed [polel] in Moses…
    • NADUGAYAN -[כִּֽי־בֹשֵׁשׁ מֹשֶׁה] – tuman NGA NAPASLAW[ poste] kay Moises
    • Moses had been up on the mountain with God for FORTY days and FORTY nights…
    • Si Moises nagtinir sa bukid kaupod ang Ginoo sa FORTY ka adlaw kag FORTY ka gab-e…
    • And since Moses had not come back yet – they assumed he would never come back!
    • Kag tungod nga si Moises dugay nga nakabalik- sila naghunahuna nga siya indi nagid magbalik!
    • It is easy to say we want to follow Jesus – we want to serve the Lord…
    • Mahapos lang nga maghambal nga gusto naton nga sundon si Jesus- gusto naton nga mag alagad sa Dios..
    • But we can easily – and quickly – get caught back up in the care of this world…
    • Pero kita mahapos- kag madasig- lang nga kuhaon sang sini nga kalibutan..
    • Forgetting that Jesus said He would be COMING BACK for us – we need to be ready…
    • Aton gakalipatan nga si Jesus naghambal nga Siya maga BALIK para sa aton- kinahanglan naton nga maghanda..
    • If Jesus came back today – what would He find us doing – waiting / or in the world!
    • Kon si Jesus magabalik subong- ano ayhan ang Iya makita nga ginahimo- nagahulat/ukon ara sa kalibutan!
    • II Peter 3:4 – “Jesus promised to come back, did he? Then where is he?”
    • II Pedro 3:4-”Si Jesus nagpromisa nga siya magabalik, siya naghambal? Kag diin bala siya?
  • 2^nd – Come make [imperative] us gods… vs. 1-5
  • 2^nd– pagahimuan [ïmperative] sila sang dios dios…vs. 1-5
    • Before Moses left – Israel had said was they would follow all of the commands of God…
    • Antes si Moises naghalin- ang mga Israelinhon naghambal nga ila pagasundon ang tanan nga sugo sang Ginoo..
    • But because Moses was NOT back – they BROKE the first TWO commands…
    • Pero kay tungod nga si Moises WALA nagbalik- ila GINGUBA ang una nga DUWA ka sugo/..
    • The very FIRST command – was not to have any other gods before the Lord…
    • Ang UNA nga sugo- wala dapat sang bisan ano nga dios antes sa Dios..
    • The SECOND command – was not to make any idols – Exodus 20:3-4
    • Ang IKADUWA nga sugo- indi maghimo sang bisan ano nga dios- Exodus 20:3-4
    • Make us gods [אֱלֹהִים] – Israel demanded Aaron make them an IMAGE of the god…
    • Naghimo sila sang dios- ang Israelinhun nagmando kay Aaron nga maghimo sang IMAHE sang dios..
    • Aaron told them to BREAK off the gold from the earrings of their wives / sons / daughters…
    • Si Aaron nagsugo sa ila nga PANGAWAON nila ang ila bulawan nga aritos sang ila asawa/ mga kabataan..
    • Interesting command – as a pierced ear was the mark of a BONDSERVENT – Exodus 21:6
    • Interesado nga mando- kag pareho sa pagtuhog sang dalunggan nga naga marka sang pagka ULIPON- Exodus 21:6
    • They were BREAKING their commitment – as SERVANTS of the Lord!
    • Sila nag GUBA sang ila nga ginpanata- bilang ALAGAD sang Dios!
    • Aaron fashioned a Golden CALF…
    • Ginpanami ni Aaron ang Bulawan nga BAKA..
    • This was the FIRST – but not the LAST time Israel would worship a Golden CALF…
    • Amo ini ang UNA- pero indi ULIHI nga tiun sang mga Israelinhon sa pagsimbah sa Bulawan nga BAKA..
    • King Jeroboam made TWO Golden Calves that led Israel into SIN – I Kings 12:28
    • Si Haring Jeroboam nagpahimo sang DUWA ka Bulawan nga Baka sa pag giya sang Israelenhun sa sala- I Hari 12:28
    • The people said – THIS is your god Israel – who brought you out of Egypt!
    • Naghambal ang mga katawhan- AMO ini ang inyo dios sang Israel- ang nagpagguwa sa inyo sa Egipto!
    • Aaron proclaimed the next day would be a feast to the Lord [לַיהוָה] …
    • Si Aaron naghambal nga pagka aga amo ang piesta para sa Dios [לַיהוָה] …
    • Israel had a lapse of FAITH – they were doubting God – because they could not SEE God…
    • Ang Israelinhun nadula ang ila PAGTUO- sila nagpang duwaduwa sa Ginoo- kay tumgod indi nila MAKITA ang Ginoo..
    • They stopped looking UP – and started looking around to see what else they could worship!
    • Sila nag-untat sa pagtulok sa IBABAW- kag nagsugod tulok sa palibot nga kon ano pa ang ila masimbah!
    • Jesus gave a parable of the TEN virgins – Matthew 25:1-13
    • Si Jesus naghatag sang palaanggiran sang PULO ka dalagita- Mateo 25:1-13
    • There were TEN women waiting for THE Wedding – but the Groom was DELAYED…
    • May ara sang PULO ka mga kababainhan nga nagahulat SA kasal- Pero ang mga Kalalakin-an NADUGAYAN…
    • The virgins fell asleep / their lights went out – the excitement of Jesus coming wore away!
    • Ang mga dalagita na babayi natulogan/ naubusan sang lana ang ila suga-
    • When we first HEAR the Gospel – we get excited and commit to FOLLOW the Lord…
    • Sang una pa alng naton NABATIAN ang Pulong- kita nagin excited kag nanumpa nga SUNDON ang Dios..
    • But as time passes – YEARS – and we do not SEE Jesus – DOUBT can creep in…
    • Pero sang naglipas na ang mga tiniun- TINUIG- kag wala naton NAKITA si Jesus- ang PAGDUDA nag amat-amat na..
    • And we stop looking UP for the return of Jesus – and start looking around at the world…
    • Kag kon kita maga-untat sa pagtulok sa ibabaw para sa pagbalik ni Jesus- kag magsugod tulok sa kalibutan…
    • II Corinthians 4:16-18 – “Therefore we do NOT lose heart… while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.”
    • II Corinto 4:16-18-”Amo ina ang kabangdanan nga WALA kami nagakaluya… kay wala namon ginapasulabi ang mga butang nga amon makita, kundi ang mga butang nga indi namon makita.
  • 3^rd – They rose EARLY… vs. 6
  • 3^rd– Sila nagbangon AGA pa …vs.6
    • The people got up EARLY the next day – they were EXCITED…
    • Sa madason nga adlaw ang mga tawo AGA pa nagbugtaw- sila nangin EXCITED..
    • And they offered BURNT (dedication) and PEACE (fellowship) sacrifices to the golden calf…
    • Kag sila naghalad sang GINASUNOG( pagdedikar) kag KALINONG( pagtililipon) halad para sa bulawan na baka..
    • We have seen THREE kinds of sacrifices – one is missing here – the SIN offering…
    • Aton makita ang TATLO ka sahi sang paghalad- ang isa nawala diri- ang SALA nga halad…
    • Israel could dedicate themselves to the GOLDEN CALF – desire to be friends…
    • Ang Israelinhun ila gindedikar ang ila kaugalingon sa BULAWAN na BAKA- naghandom nga mangin abyan..
    • But the GOLDEN CALF could not take away their SIN!
    • Pero ang BULAWAN na BAKA indi makakuha sang ila SALA!
    • Israel sat down to EAT and DRINK / and rose up to PLAY [piel] HARD…
    • Ang Israelinhun nagpungko sa pagKINAON kag pagILINOM/
    • Rather than live a life dedicated to obeying God – they wanted to have FUN…
    • Kaysa magkabuhi nga magdedikar sa pagsunod sa Ginoo- ang gusto nila nga mag PANGALIPAY..
    • No though for the FUTURE – they wanted to live for the DAY!
    • Wala sila gatulok sa PALAABOTON- ang ila lang gusto nga magkabuhi subong nga ADLAW..
    • At the foot of the mountain of God – with the fire still burning on top…
    • Sa tiilan sang Bukid sang Ginoo- upod sang kalayo sa ibabaw
    • Only days after God had spoken to them – having received the TEN commandments…
    • Pila lang ka adlaw nakipaghambal ang Ginoo sa ila- ila ginbaton ang PULO ka sugo..
    • The people walked away from God – because they only wanted to please themselves!
    • Ang mga katawhan nagpalayo sa Ginoo- kay tungod ila lang gusto nga mapalipay ang ila kaugalingon!
    • What is the Golden CALF – interesting how times have not CHAGED…
    • Ano bala ang Bulawan na BAKA- interesado gid pila na katiun ang naglipa wala gid NAGABAG-O
    • The symbol for wealth to this day – is a Golden CALF…
    • Ina naga simbolo sing manggad sa sini nga adlaw- amo iang Bulawan nga BAKA..
    • If you to WALL STREET in New York – you will still see a Golden Calf!
    • Kon ikaw makakita sa WALL STREET sa New York- imo makita ang Bulawan nga Baka!
    • We cannot serve ourselves and serve the Lord – we have to CHOOSE…
    • Indi kita pwede maka alagad sa aton kaugalingon kag mag-alagad man sa Dios- kinahanglan naton nga MAGPILI..
    • To CHOOSE to follow God – means we lay down our lives – live our lives for Jesus!
    • Luke 9:23 – “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
    • Lucas 9:23-”Kon may tawo nga gusto magsunod sa akon, indi niya dapat pagpasulabihon ang iya kaugalingon, kag dapat handa siya sa pag-atubang sang kamatayon, kag sa pagsunod sa Iya.
• 2^nd – Not my people… vs. 7-14
• 2^nd– indi akon mga katawhan…vs.7-14
  • 1^st – Go down… vs. 7-10
  • 1^st– Mag panaog…vs.7-10
    • God commanded Moses to GO DOWN [imperative] from the mountain…
    • Ang Ginoo nagsugo kay Moises nga mag PANAOG[ imperative] halin sa bukid..
    • YOUR people who YOU brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves…
    • Ang IMO mga katawhan nga ginpa guwa MO sa Egypt ginpakalain nila ang ila kaugalingon..
    • Any parent can tell you – when a child is being BAD – they are the other spouses kid…
    • Bisan sin- nga ginikanan nga maghamabl sa imo- kon ang imo bata nakahimo sing MALAIN- sila ang ginlain nga mga bata…
    • When the Dad comes home – Mom tells him – do you know what YOUR son did today!
    • Kon ang Amay magpauli sa balay- ang iloy magahambal sa iya- kabalo ka kon ano ang ginhimo sang IMO bata subong!
    • Israel had quickly TURNED aside…
    • Ang Israelinhun kadasig lang nga MAGTALIKOD..
    • Quickly [piel] TURNED [perfect] – to completely depart from the commands God had given…
    • Madasig[ piel] MAGTALIKOD[perpekto]- sa kabug-osan nga maghalin halin sa mga sugo nga ginhatag sang Ginoo..
    • God had SEEN the people – and they were STIFFNECKED – unwilling to TURN back…
    • NAKITA sang Ginoo ang katawhan- kag sila NAUNAY- indi interesado sa PAGBALIK..
    • In less than FORTY days they had gone from we will OBEY all – to making false IDOLS…
    • Wala pa mag FORTY ka adlaw kag sila nawala halin sa nga ila PAGASUNDON ang tanan- sa paghimo sang indi matuod nga dios dios..
    • The plan of God was to wipe them all out – start over with Moses…
    • Ang plano sang Ginoo nga pagalaglagon sila tanan- pagasugdan ina ni Moises..
    • Let me alone [jussive] that My wrath may burn hot and CONSUME [cohortative] them!
    • Pabay-I ako nga naga isahanon [jussive] nga ang Akon kaakig amo ang magasnog sa ila kag paagi sa akon nga GINASUYOP nga kalayo[cohortative] sa paglaglag sa ila!
  • 2^nd – Pleading with God… vs. 11-14
  • 2^nd– Nagpakit-luoy sa Ginoo…vs..11-14
    • Moses PLEADED [piel] for Israel – YOUR people who YOU brought out of Egypt…
    • Si Moises NAGPAKITLUOY[piel] para sa Israelinhun- Ang IMO mga katawhan nga ginpaguwa MO Sa Egypt..
    • No one wanted to take any responsibility for Israel at this point!
    • Wala gid sing bisan isa ang gusto magkuha sang sini nga reponsibilidad para sa Israelinhun sa sini nga punto…
    • Israel did NOT deserve to be saved – they deserved JUDGEMENT – but Moses argued…
    • Ang Israelinhun INDI takus nga pagaluawason- sila takus nga PAGAHUKMAN- pero si Moises nag-ayo..
    • Why should the Egyptians SPEAK…
    • Ngaa ang mga Egiptohanon NAGKIPAGHAMBAL..
    • The Egyptians would say – the God of Israel led them into the wilderness to kill them…
    • Ang Egiptohanon nagahambal- ang Ginoo sang Israelinhun amo ang nag giya sa ila sa kamingawan para sila pagapatyon..
    • So not for the sake of Israel – but for the sake of His Holy name – spare them!
    • Gani para imdi sa kayuhan sang Israelinhun- pero sa kayuhan sang Iya Balaan nga ngalan- luwasa sila!
    • The church should be the representative of God to a lost and dying world…
    • Ang simbahan amo ang nagapresentar sang Ginoo sa mga nawala kag sa patay nga kalibutan…
    • When the church has as many or more scandals than the world – the world mocks…
    • Kon ang simbahan may ara sang kadamuon ukon damo sang iskandalo kaysa kalibutan- ang kalibutanmagayaguta…
    • The light of Jesus becomes faded – much of the power / witness of the church is lost!
    • Ang suga ni Jesus maga amat-amat dula- damo nga kusos/ aton masaksihan nga ang simbahan nawala!
    • REMEMBER Your promises to Abraham / Isaac / and Israel…
    • DUMDOMA ang Imo promisa kay Abrahan/Isaac/kag sa mga Israelinhun..
    • To multiply their descendants like the stars in the heavens – Genesis 22:17
    • Pagadamuno ko gid ang imo mga kaliwat pareho kadamo sa bituon sa langit- Genesis 22:17
    • And the give the LAND as an ETENRAL inheritance – Genesis 13:15
    • Kag ang tanan nga DUTA nga imo makita mangin inyo ina HASTA san-o- Geneses 13:15
    • And the Lord RELENTED the HARM [evil] He thought [piel] to do to His people…
    • Kag ang Dios NAGAPASUGOT sang HALIT [malaut] Siya naghunahuna[piel] sa paghimo sa Iya katawhan…
    • RELENTED – (niphal / passive) to have COMPASSION on them!
    • NAGPASUGOT r-(niphal/kinaiya) may arasing KALUOY sa ila!
    • God did NOT need Moses to REMIND Him…
    • Ang Ginoo INDI kinahanglan si Moises sa pagPADUMDOM sa Iya..
    • God was stirring Moses to stand up – have the same COMPASSION – for His people…
    • Ang Ginoo nagpukaw kay Moises nga magtindog- may ara nga pareho nga KALUOY- para sa Iya katawhan..
    • God could SEE what was coming – this was NOT the last time Israel would rebel!
    • Ang Ginoo MAKITA kon ano ang palaabuton- INDI lang amo ni nga ulihi nga tiun nga ang Israelinhun nagrebelde..
    • Galatians 6:1-2 – “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

    • How do we respond when we see a brother or sister who has fallen into sin…
    • Paano kita mag responde kon makita naton ang aton mga utod nga nahulog sa sala..
    • When a believer is in trouble – and needs help – Christians tend to attack…
    • Kon ang mga tumuluo ara sa kabudlayan- kag nagakinahanglan sing bulig- Ang Cristohanon dasig magsalakay…
    • Rather than picking them up – they instead are quick to judge…
    • Kaysa kuhaon sila pababaw- skita kadasig lang nga sila husgahan..
    • Christians unfortunately are famous for shooting their wounded
    • Ang masubo ang mga Cristuhanon ang ginatira sang sala!
    • Or the tendency is to leave those in need alone when we should be loving them…
    • Ukon ang matabo amo ang pagbiya sa mga naga kinahanglan sa diin dapat sila aton higugma-on
    • But it should not be that way in the church – we are to be known by love!
    • Pero indi amo na dapat sa simbahan- dapat kilala kita sa paghigugma!
    • John 13:35 – “All will know you are My disciples, if you have love for one anot

• 3^rd – The law of God… vs. 15-35
• 3^rd– ang layi sang ginoo..vs.15-35
  • 1^st – Far from sin… vs. 15-18
  • 1^st– layo sa sala.. vs.15-18
    • Moses came down the mountain – with the TWO stone tablets in his hands…
    • Si Moises nanaog halin sa bukid- nga dala ang DUHA ka bato sa iya kamot..
    • They were written on the FRONT and BACK – the WORK of God…
    • Ina may sulat sa ATUBANG kag sa LIKOD- ang KASUGUAN sang Ginoo..
    • With THEIR (plural) writing – the writing of God engraved on the TWO tablets of stone…
    • Written by the FINGER of God – Exodus 31:18
    • Ginsulat paagi sa KAMOT sang Ginoo- Exodus 31:18
    • Joshua met Moses on the way down – Joshua had gone father up than anyone else…
    • Josue nagkipagkita kay Moises sa dalom- si Jousue nakabati sang nagaginahod sang mga tawo..
    • He heard the noise coming from the camp – and said it is the noise of WAR…
    • Iya nabatian ang tingug halin sa kampo- kag naghambal gahud ina sang pag- inaAWAY…
    • But Moses countered – it is not the NOISE of victory or defeat – it is SINGING [piel]!
    • Pero si Moises nagsabat- indi ina GAHOD sang kadalag-an ukon sang kapierdihan- ini PAGKINANTA[piel]
    • Joshua was not caught up in the sin of Israel – because he was closer to God!
    • SiJ osue wala na dakop ang sala sang Israelenhunl- tungod siya mas malapit sa Ginoo!
    • We believe in the Lord – we follow the Lord – but often from a distance…
    • Kita nagapati sa Dios- Gasunod sa Dios- pero sa kis a ara sa layo…
    • We want to live both for the Lord – and for the world…
    • Gusto naton sa duwa nga magkabuhi sa Dios- kag sa kalibutan…
    • Look like a Christian on Sundays – like the world the rest of the week…
    • Pareho nga Cristuhanun ka kon dominggo- pero pareho nga ara sa kalibutan sa mga nabilin nga semana….
    • The PROBLEM is – the farther we are from Jesus – the closer we are to the world…
    • Ang Problima amo-ang kalayuon sa kay Jesus- kita nagapalapit sa kalibutan…
    • And when we are close to the world – we tend to fall into the sins of the world!
    • Kag kon kita malapit sa kalibutan- kis a mahulog kita sa sala sang kalibutan!
  • 2^nd – Excuses… vs. 19-24
  • 2^nd-Ang pag pamalibad…vs.19-24
    • When Moses arrived at the camp – he saw the CALF and DANCING – and his anger grew HOT…
    • Sang si Moises nag-abot sa campo- iya nakita ang bulawan nga BAKA kag sila NAGBINAYLI- kag ang iya kaakig nag grabe nagid…
    • He threw down and SHATTERED [piel] the stone tablets…
    • Iya gin haboy sa dalum kag NAGUBA[piel] ang duwa ka malapad na bato…
    • A dramatic symbolic gesture – showing that Israel had broken the Law of God…
    • Ang talan-awon nga simbulo nga ginahimo- nagapakita nga ang Israelinhun nag guba sang layi sang Ginoo!
    • He burnt the golden calf – ground it up – mixed it with water – made Israel drink it!
    • Iya gin sunog ang bulawan nga baka-ginpudpod-kag gin impon sa tubig- kag gin painum sa mga taga lsraelenhun..
    • Moses asked Aaron – what have the people done to you that you allowed this GREAT sin…
    • Si Moises nagpamangkot kay Aaron- ano ang ginhimo sang tawo sa imo ngaa imo ini gintugot ang DAKO nga sala…
    • Aaron made excuses – the people are set on MISCHIEF – and when Moses delayed…
    • S Aaaron nghimo sang pagpamalibad- ang mga katawhan ng himo sing PAGTINUNTO- sang si Moises na dugayan…
    • They demanded Aaron make [imperative] gods to go before them…
    • Ila gin manduan si Aaron nga maghimo[imperative] sang dios nga magupod sa ila…
    • So – he took their gold – cast it into the fire – POOF out came a golden calf!
    • Gani- ila gin kuha ang ila mga bulawan- ginhaboy sa kalayo- NAGLUPOK kag nag guwa ang bulawan nga baka!
    • So many times – when we fail – we want to blame ANYTHING but us…
    • Sa kadamo na nga tion -kita napaslaw- BISAN SIN-O lang ang ang aton basulon pero kita lang man…
    • If we take the blame – then it means that we have to CHANGE / REPENT…
    • Kon aton kapyutan ang mga pagbasoll- buot silingon kinahanglan ta nga mag BAG-O/MAGHINULSOL….
    • It means we did something WRONG and need to make it right…
    • Buot silingon nakahimo kita sing SALA kag kinahanglan na naton nga tadlungon…
    • It is far easier to just pass the BLAME onto someone else – (Israelites / a fire)
    • Mas mahapos ang ipasa ang PAGBASOL sa bisan ky sin-o lang-(mga Isarelinhon/ ang kalayo)
    • Then we do NOT have to do anything – it was not our fault (or all our fault)!
    • Dayun WALA kita sing may ginahimo nga bisan ano- indi ina aton sala(ukon aton tanan sala)!
  • 3^RD – The death of 3000… vs. 25-29
  • 3^rd– Ang kamatayun sang 3000.. vs 25-29
    • When Moses saw the people were UNRESTRAINED – for Aaron had not restrained them…
    • Sang nakita ni Moises ang mga katawhan nga GINPABAY-AN-ni Aaron nga wala nagpugong sa ila…
    • UNRESTRAINED – the word can mean NAKED – to their shame…
    • GINPABAY-AN- ang buot silingon sang pulong HUBLAS- sa ila kahuya-anan
    • Moses called out – whoever is on the side of the Lord – come to me….
    • Si Moises naghambal- kon sin-o ang sa bahin sang Dios- magpalapit sa akon..
    • Most of Israel came – including the whole tribe of Levi – Moses tribe!
    • Ang kalabanan sa Israelenhun- upod sa bilog nga tribo ni Levi- tribu ni Moises!
    • Moses ordered Levi to go and put to death – all who would not turn back to the Lord…
    • Si Moises nag sugo kay levi sa paglakat kag sila ibutang sa kamatayon- sa tanan nga indi magpanumbalik sa Dios…
    • Every man KILL [imperative] his BROTHER / FRIEND / NEIGHBOR…
    • Tagsa ka tawo PATYON[imperstive] ang iya LAKI nga utod/ ABYAN/TUPAD BALAY…
    • CONSECRATE [arm] yourself – against every man – even your sons – and be blessed…

    • He went back up the mountain – to meet with God – to make ATONEMENT [cover] their sin…

    • There was no reason why God should FORGIVE the sins of Israel…

    • But Moses stood between God and the JUDGEMENT Israel deserved!

    • In other words – Moses was willing to suffer their fate – even though he was INNOCENT!

    • We do NOT deserve to be forgiven – we deserved to be judged for our sin – we deserve Hell…

    • When we sin – we may think that no one noticed – we think we get away with it…

    • The Lords timing is not our timing – He is not in a rush…

    • We think that waiting on the Lord means a couple of hours – maybe weeks..

    • Following Jesus means being patient – willing to wait on the Lord – wait on Grace!

  • 2^nd – God would not travel with Israel… vs. 2-3

    • God would send His Angel before them to drive out the Canaanites (people in the land) …

    • But He would not go – because the Children of Israel were STIFF-NECKED…

    • They had shown how easily and quickly they would turn from God…

    • If He came into their camp – even for a moment – He would CONSUME them!
    • Sometimes we feel like God is not there – like we are ALONE – as if God is far away…

    • It is not that God does not WANT to come near – it is us who KEEPS Him away…

    • When we choose to be STUBBORN – rebellious – we are telling God to stay away!

    • God commanded the Israelites to remove all their ORNAMENTS…

    • ORNAMENTS – can refer to either jewelry – or fancy clothing…
    • ALAHAS- ginabasihan sa bisan ano nga alahas- ukon malahalon nga bayo..
    • Why remove ORNAMENTS – the golden calf was molded out of the gold JEWELRY…
    • Ngaa pagakakason ang mga ALAHAS- kay ang bulawan nga baka nahimo sa bulawan nga ALAHAS…
    • ALSO – The people were trying to look good on the OUTSIDE – but the inside was corrupt…
    • KAG- ang tawo naga testing sa pagtulok sang maayo sa PANG GUWA- pero sa sulod puro kalainan..
    • They thought looking beautiful on the o OUTSIDE was all that really mattered!
    • Sila nagapainsar kon manami sila tulukon sa pang GUWA ina tanan amo ang importante!
    • God wanted them to have INWARD beauty – the outside was irrelevant!
    • Gusto sang Ginoo sa ila ang sa SULOD manami- ang sa guwa indi importante!
    • Much like the Children of Israel – the world tends to focus on EXTERNAL beauty…
    • Pareho sa Kaanakan sang Israelinhun- ang kalibutan naga kabig nga I sentro ang PANGGUWA nga hitsura….
    • We judge beauty based on clothing – hair – jewelry – phones…
    • Kita nagahusga sa hitsura gabase sa bayo- buhok- alahas- phones..
    • We think these are what make a person beautiful – we could not be more wrong!
    • Nagapinsar kita nga amo na ang nagapanami sa tawo- indi gid kita sobra ka malain!
    • I Timothy 2:9-10 – “I want [people] to be modest in appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For [those] who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.” [NLT]

    • Since God would not come INTO the camp – Moses met with God OUTSIDE the camp…
    • Kay tungo nga ang Ginoo indi magkadto DIDTO sa campo- si Moises nagkipagkita sa Ginoo Sa GUWA sang campo..
    • Called it the TABERNACLE of MEETING – anyone who wanted to meet with God would go there!
    • Ginatawag nga TOLDA nga GINAPAKIGKITAAN- ang bisan sin-o nga gusto makipagkita sa Ginoo magakadto didto!..
    • The CHURCH is not a BUILDNG – its people – the reason why we have BULDINGS…
    • Ang SIMBAHAN indi ang TINUKOD- kundi ang katawhan- ang rason ngaa may ara kita nga GINATUKOD ..
    • MANY people are FAR from the Lord – and it gives them a place to MEET with God…
    • MADAMO nga mga tawo ang LAYO sa Ginoo- kag ina nagahatag sa ila sang lugar nga makipag KITA sa Ginoo..
    • A CHURCH is not meant to be a place for saints – perfect people to gather…
    • Ang SIMBAHAN indi para sa lugar sang mga santo- perpektonga mga tawo ang magatilipon..
    • A church is the TENT of MEETING – where sinners come to meet with a Holy God!
    • Ang simbahan isa ka TOLDA sang PAKIGKITAAN- kon sa diin ang makasasala magakadto kag makipagkita sa Balaan nga Ginoo!
  • 2^nd – Inside the homes… vs. 8-10
  • 2^nd– sa sulod sang Tolda…vs.8-10
    • Whenever Moses went into the TENT – all of Israel would stand and watch…
    • Sa tiun nga si Moises magkadti sa TOLDA- ang tanan nga Israelinhun magatindog kag magatulok..
    • The Pillar of Cloud [glory] would descend on the TENT – God meeting with Moses…
    • Ang Haligi nga may Panganod[ himaya] magapaidalom sa TOLDA- samtang ang Ginoo nagapakighambal kay Moises..
    • Then all the people would worship in their own homes!
    • Kag ang tanan nga katawhan magasimbah sa ila kaugalingon nga tolda!
    • We worship and learn about Jesus at CHURCH – but it should not stop there…
    • Nagasimbah kita kag nagatuon parte kay Jesus sa SIMBAHAN- pero indi lang dira nag untat..
    • A CHURCH is not the only place we can worship God – learn about the Lord…
    • ANG SIMBAHAN indi lang lugar nga pwede kita makasimbah sa Ginoo- kundi makatuon man parte sa Dios…
    • Do NOT wait till Sunday or Mid-week – take the time every day to spend with Jesus!
    • INDI maghulat asta mag Dominggo ukon sa tunga sang semana- I kuahaa ina nga oras adlaw adlaw sa paghatag tiun kay Jesus!
  • 3^rd – Face to face… vs. 11
  • 3^rd– Naga atubangay gid sila..vs 11
    • Inside the Tent – God spoke to Moses FACE to FACE – as with a FRIEND…
    • Sa sulod sang Tolda- ang Ginoo estorya kay Moises nga NAGA ATUBANGAY- pareho sa mag ABYAN..
    • This is an amazing statement of the relationship God had with Moses…
    • Amo ini ang manami nga ginahambal parte sa relasyon sang Ginoo kay Moises…
    • God did not speak to Moses is vague visions / obscure dreams / or cryptic words…

    • Moses had regular conversations with God – question and answer – friendship!

    • Deuteronomy 34:10 – “There has never been another prophet like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.”

    • How did Moses get such an amazing relationship with God…

    • After God was done speaking to Moses – he would go and share with Israel.…

    • But Joshua would STAY in the tent – spending TIME in the PRESENCE of the Lord!

    • If you want to be a friend – you do not ignore a person – stay away from them…
    • Kon gusto mo siya nga mangin abyan- indi ka magsikway sang persona- magpalayo sa ila…
    • Friendship comes from spending TIME – getting to know a person!
    • Ang Pagkaabyanay naghalin sa paghatag sang TIUN- sa pagkilala mo sa isa ka tawo!
    • Our challenge seems to be finding the time to spend with God…

    • There are so many distractions in this life that seem to always vie for attention…

    • But our problem is not TIME – it is our PRORITIES – what is most important to us…

    • Sadly – we often do everything but the one thing that is truly necessary…

    • Sit at the feet of Jesus – spend time with Him – get to know Him as our friend!

  • 1^st – Show me the WAY… vs. 12-14

    • God had commanded Moses to take Israel to the Promised Land…

    • But God had not told him exactly who would take them in (an Angel) – or how…
    • Pero ang Ginoo wala naghambal sa iya sang isakto kon sin-o ang magadala sa ila ( ang Angeh]– ukon paano..
    • If I have found GRACE in Your sight – show me your WAY…
    • Pero kon makita ko ang imo GRASYA sa Imo panulukan- Ipakita sa akon ang imo PAMAAGI..
    • So that Moses could KNOW the Lord – find GRACE in His sight…
    • Gani si Moises para MAKILALA ang Dios- pangitaon niya ang GRASYA sa Iya panulukan..
    • KNOW that God STILL considered Israel as His people!
    • KABALO kita nga ang Ginoo ginaconsiderar sa GIHAPON ang mga taga Israelenhon nga Iya mga katawhan!
    • We want all the details from God before we step out in faith…
    • Aton gusto nga kuhaon ang tanan nga detalye halin sa Ginoo antes kita magpati…
    • But God rarely gives us all the details – or sometimes even any of the details…
    • Pero ang Ginoo ginhatag na niya ang tanan nga detalye- ukon kis a bisan ano nga mga detalye…
    • If we knew exactly what to do – and where we were going – it would not take faith!
    • Kon kabalo gid kita kon ano ang aton himuon- kag kon sa diin kita magkadto- indi ina nagakinahanglan sing pagpati!
    • God leaves us in a place where we have to completely dependent on Him for every step
    • Ginbilin kita sang Ginoo sa lugar nga ko sa diin kita nga bug-os nga magdepende sa Iya sa kada tikang..
    • Rather than depending on our understanding – we learn to trust in the Lord!
    • Kaysa magdepende sa aton kaugalingon nga pag inchindi- aton matun-an nga magsalig kita sa Dios!
    • II Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
    • II Corinto 5:7-” Magkabuhi sa pagtuo, indi suno sa aton makita.
    • The Lord told Moses – He would personally go with him…
    • Ang Dios nagsugo kat Moises- Siya gid personal nagkadto sa iya..
    • This seems to be a CONRADICTION – God had just said He would NOT go with Israel…

    • Who went with Israel – God or the Angel of God…
    • Sin-o ang maga-upod sa Israelenhon. Ang Ginoo ukon ang Anhel sang Ginoo..
    • The answer is the Angel of God – is none other than God – Jesus Christ!

    • Moses did not want to take one step without the Lord leading the way…
    • Si Moises indi gusto nga mag una sa pagtikang kon wala ang Dios nga nagatuytoy sa iya alagyan..
    • He knew the right way to go – was to walk in the footprints of the God!
    • Kabalo Siya sang inchakto nga alagyan sa pagkadto- amo ang paglakat nga sundon ang agi sang mga tikang sang Ginoo!
    • More often than not – we step out to do something – and it does not work out…
    • Sa masami- naga guwa kita kag maghimo sang isa ka butang- kag ina wala natuman..
    • Then ask the Lord if He wanted us to do it – only to find out we got AHEAD of the Lord…
    • Dayon pamangkuton ang Dios kon ano ang Iya gusto nga ipahimo sa aton- kag aton matalupandan nga aton gina PANGUNAHAN ang Dios..
    • We should not take a step – without the confidence the Lord is LEADING us!
    • Indi kita maghimo sang tikang- nga wala sang pagsalig sa Dios nga naga GIYA sa aton!
    • If God went with Moses and Israel – they would be SEPARATE from all other nations…
    • Kon ang Ginoo nag-upod kay Moises kag sa Israelenhun- sila maga SEPARAR halin sa mga lain nga nasyon…
    • The Lord answered – I will do as you say – you have found GRACE – I KNOW you by name!
    • Ang Dios nagsabat- tumanon ko kon ano ang imo ginapangayo- kay nakita ko sa imo ang KALIPAY- kag KILALA ko gid ikaw!
    • If all we have is the name Christian – a religion – how are we different from anyone else…
    • Ang tanan nga ara sa aton amo ang ngalan nga Cristohanon- ang religion- paano kita lain kaysa iban…
    • What makes us special – is that God is with us – the creator of all things – KNOWS our name!
    • Paano kita mangin espesya amo ina nga ang Ginoo ara sa aton- ang manunuga sang tanan- naka KILALA sang aton ngalan!
    • He is more than willing to direct our steps – lead and guide us – if we will simply ask!
    • Siya sobra ka gusto nga mag tudlo sang aton mga tikang- magtuytoy kag maga giya sa aton- kon kita magpangayo sa iya!
    • Psalms 37:23 – “The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
    • Salmo 37:23-”Ginagiyahan sang Ginoo ang mga tikang sang tawo nga ang iya pagkabuhi makapalipay sa Iya.
  • 3^rd – Let me see your presence… vs. 18-23

    • Moses wanted to see the GLORY of the Lord…
    • Si Moises gusto nga makita ang GAMHANAN sang Dios..
      • The Jews called it the SHEKINAH of the Lord – the glorious presence of God…
      • Ginatawag sang mga Judio SHEKINAH sang Dios- ang gamhanan nga presensya sang Ginoo..
      • Whether it was a cloud coming down at the door of the Tent of Meeting…
      • Bisan ang panganod nagapaidalom sa pwertahan sang Tolda nga Pakigkitaan..
      • The burning bush / or the Holiest of All – inside the curtain – above the Mercy Seat…
      • Ang kahoy nga nagakalayo/ ukon ang Balaan sa tanan- sa sulod sang kurtina- sa babaw sang Kahon sang Kasugtanan…
      • Moses wanted to not JUST see the presence of God – he wanted to see His FACE!
      • Gusto ni Moises nga indi LANG ang presensya sang Ginoo ang iya makita- iya gusto nga makita ang iya NAWONG!
    • The FACE of God…
      • God would let His GOODNESS [כָּל־טוּבִי] pass before Moses – and He would call out His name…
      • Ginpasugtan sang Ginoo nga ang Iya KAAYO[כָּל־טוּבִי] ipakita kay Moises- kag iya imitlang angt Iya ngalan..
      • But no man can look on His FACE and live – there are TWO thoughts on why…
      • Pero wala sing tawo nga makatulok sang Iya NAWONG kag nabuhi- may ara sang duwa ka pinsar ngaa..
      • FIRST – God is so HOLY – sinful man would perish in the pure light of God…
      • Una- ang Ginoo BULAHAN- ang makasasala nga tawo magawala sa putli nga kasanag sang Ginoo..
      • Isaiah 6:5 – “My destruction is sealed, for I am a sinful man and a member of a sinful race. Yet I have seen the King, the LORD Almighty!”
      • Isaias 6:5-”Sigurado gid nga laglagon ako, tungod kay malain ang akon ginapanghambal kag nagapuyo ako kaupod sa mga tawo nga malain man ang ila ginapanghambal. Kag karon, nakita ko gid ang Hari, ang Ginoo nga makagagahom.
      • SECOND – Upon seeing our Lord – who would want to go back to an ordinary life!
      • IKADUWA- kon makita natong ang Dios- sin-o ang luyag nga magbalik sang ila ordinaryo nga kabuhi!
      • II Corinthians 12:4 – “He was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” [NLT]
      • II Corinto 12:4-”Siya gindala pa ibabaw sa ikatlo nga langit, sa paraiso kag nabatian niya ang ang mga butang nga indi masarangan nga ipaathag kag indi pwede isugid sa mga tawo.
      • God put Moses behind a rock – covered him with His hand – and passed by…
      • Ginbutang sang Ginoo si Moises sa guhab sang bato- gintabunan Niya sang Iya kamot- kag asta nga makaagi Siya….
      • Moses was allowed to see God from behind – but he could not look on His FACE…
      • Ginpasugtan sang Ginoo si Moises nga makita ang Likod sang Ginoo- pero indi sita makatulok sa Iya NAWONG..
      • Moses spent time with God – and because he became the friend of God…
      • Si Moises naghatag sang iya tiun sa Ginoo- kag tungod siya nangin abyan sang Ginoo…
      • He got to see the Lord – the SHEKINAH glory of God!
      • Iya nakita ang Dios- ang SHEKINAH ang gamhanan nga Ginoo!
      • As we spend time with the Lord – we will build a friendship with God…
      • Kon kita maghatag tiun sa Dios- makatukod kita sang pag-abyanay sa Ginoo..
      • A dear friend who will stay by our side every step of the way – directing our every step
      • Ang maayo nga abyan nga maga unong sa aton tupad sa kada tikang sang aton alagyan- naga giya sa aton mga tikang..
      • And one day – we will get to see Him FACE to FACE!
      • Kag sa isa ka adlaw- aton gid hibaluon nga aton Siya makita nga NAGA-ATUBANGAY
