Numbers 35 – Cities of Refuge… (3 things)

Numero 35 – ang banwa nga dalangpan… (3 butang)

  • 1st – Cities for the Levites… vs. 1-8 Read: Numbers 35:7-29
  • 1st – ang mga siyudad sang mga levita… vs. 1-8 basaha: Numero 35:7-29
    • The Levites did not receive any inheritance in the Promised Land…
    • Ang mga Levita wala nakabaton sang pagpanubli sa GinPromisa nga Duta…
    • Out of the 12 Tribes – God had chosen the Levites to serve Him in the Tabernacle…
    • Sa 12 ka mga tribu – ginpili sang Ginoo ang mga Levita nga mag-alagad sa Iya sa Tolda…
    • The Priest – Aaronic line – were to serve offering the sacrifices to the Lord…
    • Ang mga Pari – ang linya ni Aaron – nagaalagad kag nagahalad sa Ginoo…
    • The 3 clans of Levi – Kohath / Gershon / Merari – ministered to the priests…
    • Ang 3 ka clan ni Levi – Kohat / Gershon / Merari – nagatudlo mga pari…
    • Because their inheritance was the Lord – they were given no ‘land’…
    • Tungod ang ila ipanublion amo ang Ginoo – wala sang ‘duta’ nga ihatag sa ila…
    • Josue 18:7 – “Pero ang mga Levita indi pagpartidahan sang duta, tungod kay ang ila parte amo ang pag-alagad sa Ginoo bilang mga pari. Ang mga tribo ni Gad, kag ni Reuben, kag ang katunga sang tribo ni Manase nakabaton na sang ila parte sang duta sa sidlangan sang Jordan, nga ginhatag sa ila ni Moises nga alagad sang Ginoo.”
    • The Levites were given cities throughout the Land – scattered among the other tribes…
    • Hatagan ang mga Levita sang siyudad nga ila estaran halin sa Duta –
    • In all 48 cities were to be set aside for the tribe of Levi…
    • Sa tanan nga 48 ka siyudad to be set aside para sa tribu sang Levita…
    • The Levites were not to be all gathered in one area – God wanted them spread out…
    • Ang mga Levita indi lang magestar sa isa lang ka lugar – gusto sang Ginoo nga maglapta sila…
    • That way they could be a Godly influence in all the tribes / to all the people…
    • Sa sina nga paagi mangin Diosnon nga impluwensya sila sa tanan nga tribo / sa tanan nga tawo…
    • Often as Christians we have the tendency to ‘bunch up’ – stick together in one group…
    • Kis-a bilang isa ka kristohanon may ara kita tendency to ‘bunch up’ – magtililipon bilang isa ka grupo…
    • We do this because we feel safer – we don’t want the world to get us dirty…
    • Ginahimo naton ini tungod ‘we feel safer’ – indi naton gusto nga higkuan kita sang kalibutan…
    • But we need to be interacting with those who do not know Jesus…
    • Pero kinahanglan naton mag-upod sa mga tawo nga ala nakakilala kay Jesus…
    • If we are not out in the world – we cannot show the world the hope of Jesus!
    • Kon indi kita magguwa sa kalibutan – indi naton mapakita sa kalibutn ang paglaom kay Jesus!
    • But though we are in the world – we should not be like the world – John 17:15
    • Pero bisan ara kita sa kalibutan – indi kita apat mangin pareho sang kalibutan – Juan 17:15
    • The larger tribes would give more cities / the smaller tribes would give less…
    • Ang madagko nga tribo magahatag madamo nga siyudad / ang gamay nga tribo magahatag diutay…
    • Not only the city – but also the land extending out 100 meters from the city itself…
    • Indi lang ang siyudad –
    • This was to be for planting crops / and for the animals to graze…
    • Para ini tamnan / kag para sa palahalban sng mga sapat…
    • Most people when they give – give out of their excess – what they have left over…
    • Kalabanan sa mga tawo kon maghatag – nagahatag sang ila sobra – kon ano ang nabilin sa ila…
    • Giving to God is not about necessity – God does not need money…
    • Ang paghatag sa Ginoo indi parte sa kon ano ang kinahanglan – indi gusto sang Ginoo sang kwarta…
    • And it is not about the quantity – giving a lot means nothing if it costs us nothing…
    • Kag indi ini parte sa kadamuon –
    • It is about sacrifice – giving from the heart – showing our Love for God – Mark 12:42-44
    • Parte ini sa pagsakripisyo – paghatag sang tinagipusuon – pagpakita sang aton Paghigugma para sa Ginoo – Marcos 12:42-44
  • 2nd – Cities of refuge… vs. 9-29 (4 thigns)
  • 2nd – ang banwa nga dalangpan… vs. 9-29 (4 ka butang)
    • 1st – More than one city…
    • 1st – sobra sa isa ka siyudad…
      • Six cities of the Levites were set-aside as cities of refuge…
      • Anom ka siyudad sang Levita ang mga banwa nga dalangpan…
      • Three on the east side of the Jordan River / three on the west side of the Jordan River…
      • Tatlo sa sidlangan dampi ka Suba sang Jordan / tatlo sa katundan dampi sang Suba sang Jordan…
      • They were evenly placed so a city was never more than a days journey away…
      • Different cities – but all with the same purpose – a place to find refuge…
      • Lain-lain nga mga siyudad – pero pareho ang katuyuan – ang lugar nga dalangpan…
      • God has placed many different churches/denominations in the world…
      • Nagbutang ang Ginoo sang lain-lain nga mga simbahan / denominasyon sa kalibutan…
      • Each with a slightly different flavor – different focus – but all under the same Lord…
      • Ang kada isa may ara lain-lain nga sabor – lain-lain nga pokus – pero tanan ara sa Ginoo…
      • The reason is so that the church can minister to all different kinds of people…
      • Ang rason agod ang simbahan makatudlo sa tanan nga mga lain-lain nga mga tawo…
      • I Corinthians 9:22 – “Nagapakigbagay ako sa mga tumuluo nga maluya ang pagtuo agod mapabakod ko sila sa Ginoo. Nagapakigbagay ako sa tanan bisan ano ang ila kahimtangan, agod sa bisan ano nga paagi maluwas ko ang iban sa ila.”
      • One person might be more comfortable in the traditions of the Catholic church…
      • Isa ka tawo
      • Another might draw closer to God in the solid teaching of an Evangelical church…
      • There are many churches for many different kinds of people – but only One Body…
      • May ara madamo nga mga simbahan para sa lain-lain nga mga tawo – pero sa Isa lang ka Lawas…
      • But every church has the same purpose – a place to find refuge…
      • Pero kada simbahan may ara pareho nga katuyuan – ang lugar nga dalangpan…
    • 2nd – A place of refuge…
    • 2nd – ang lugar nga dalangpan…
      • If you killed someone accidentally – you could run to one of the cities for refuge…
      • Kon aksidente nga nakapatay ka sang tawo – madalagan ka sa isa ka siyudad para dalangpan…
      • It was for anyone – Jew / foreigner / travelers – anyone who needed refuge…
      • Para ini sa bisan sin-o – Judio / foreigner / travelers – bisan sin-o nga nagakinahanglan sang dalangpan…
        • Inside the walls of the city the ‘avenger of blood’ could not come and kill you…
        • Sa sulod sang siyudad ang gapamatay indi makasulod kag magpatay sa imo…
        • According to Jewish law – if you killed someone – their family had the right to kill you
        • Suno sa layi sang Judio – kon nakapatay ka sang tawo – ila pamilya may right nga magpatay sa imo…
      • It did not make a difference if it was an accident or not – ‘life for life’ – Exodus 21:23…
      • Wala ina kinalain kon aksidente ukon indi – ‘kabuhi para sa kabuhi’ – Exodus 21:23…
        • Suppose you were out working in the field – and an ax head flew off a handle…
        • Kon ikaw naga obra sa uma – kag nakakas ang ulo sang sang imo wasay…
        • It struck and killed another worker – an accident – but when the family found out…
        • Naka-igo ini kag nakapatay sa gaobra – ini aksidente – pero kon nahibaluan sang pamilya…
        • They would be coming for you – the ‘avenger of blood’ would take ‘life for life’!
        • Mabalos sila sa imo – the ‘avenger of blood’ would take ‘life for life’!
        • Your only hope would be to flee to a ‘city of refuge’ – in the city you would be safe!
        • Ang imo gid lang nga paglaom amo magkadto sa ‘banwa nga dalangpan’ – sa lugar kon diin indi ka maano!
      • We all have all received a death sentence…
      • Kita tanan makabaton sang kamatayon nga sentensya…
      • We are all sinners – Romans 3:23 – cause of our sin we deserve death – Romans 6:23
      • Kita tanan makasasala – Roma 3:23 – tungod ang aton sala ‘deserve’ sang kamatayon – Roma 6:23
        • If we stay in the world – at some our sin will catch up to us – and kill us!
        • Kon magpabilin lang kita sa kalibutan – lagson kita sang aton mga sala – kag kita patyon!
        • It might be having one too many drinks one night – and not waking up…
        • Or as an old / broken man or woman – coming to the end of a bitter life…
        • We cannot run from our sin – at some point it will catches up to everyone!
        • Indi kita makapalagyo sa aton mga sala –
      • The church – is a place where any sinner is welcome to come…
      • Ang simbahan – ang lugar kon diin ang makasasala welcome magsulod…
        • The one place where we can be safe from sin – is in Jesus / in His church…
        • Ang isa ka lugar kon diin safe kita sa aton mga sala – sa kay Jesus / sa Iya simbahan…
        • It does not make any difference who you are – or what you have done…
        • Wala sang deperensya kon sin-o ka – ukon kon ano ang imo nahimo…
        • God does not discriminate – He welcomes everyone in!
        • Ang Ginoo wala nagapasulabi – gina welcome Niya ang kada isa nga magsulod!
    • 3rd – Guilty or innocent…
    • 3rd – may sala ukon inosente…
      • Once you arrived in the city – you would be put on trial…
      • Kon mag abot kamo sa siyudad –
      • A court to decide if you had murdered / or it if was an accident…
      • Ang korte ma desisyon kon nakapatay ka / ukon isa lang ka aksidente…
        • The family of the person killed would be the prosecutor – looking to convict you…
        • Ang pamilya sang tawo nga ginpatay ang mangin ‘prosecutor’ – agod ikaw ma priso…
        • The leaders of the city would act as judge – deciding if the death was an accident…
        • Ang pangulo sang siyudad mangin hukom – maga desisyon kon ang kamatayon aksidente lang…
      • It is considered murder if…
      • Isa ka pagpatay kon…
        • You struck a killed a person with a sword / an ax / or any other iron weapon…
        • Ginbuno mo ang tawo sang espada / wasay / ukon bisan ano nga salsalon nga armas…
        • You intently pushed someone over an edge / threw something at them in anger…
        • Kon intensyon mo nga gintikwang ang tawo / paghaboy sang isa ka butang sa ila tungod sang kaakig…
        • Even if you got into a fist fight – and the other person ended up dead – murder
        • Kon kamo nagsumbaganay – kag ang isa napatay – pagpatay
        • If the death was ruled to be a murder – you were turned over to the family…
        • Kon ang kamatayon was ruled to be a murder – ang pamilya…
        • They had the responsibility of carrying out your death sentence!
        • Sila may responsibilidad sang paghatag sa imo sang kamatayon sentensya!
      • It was found to be an accident…
      • Kon ini aksidente…
        • If you accidentally pushed someone / threw something not meaning to hit them…
        • Kon aksidente mo nga natikwang ang isa ka tawo – paghaboy sang isa ka butang pero indi mo hungod nga iguon sila…
        • If you dropped a stone – but did not see the person below you…
        • Kon nakadagdag ka sang bato – pero wala mo Nakita ang tawo sa dalom…
        • Modern example: If a child ran out in the street and you hit them with a car…
        • Modern example: kon ang bata magdalagan sa dalan kag nabungguan mo ini sang imo salakyan…
        • Then you were allowed to safely stay in the city – you were not put to death
        • Gani ginatugutan ka magtinir sa siyudad nga hilway – indi ka pagpatyon
      • We also are all on trial – to see if we are guilty or innocent…
      • Kita man tanan ara sa trial – para makita kon kita may sala ukon inosenti…
      • Picture a courtroom – we are on trial for our sins – God is the judge…
      • Picture a courtroom -ara kita sa trial tungod sa aton mga sala – ang Ginoo amo ang hukom…
        • Satan is accusing us – Revelation 12:10 – wants to see us condemned to hell…
        • Si Satanas naga akusar sa aton – Pahayag 12:10 – gusto makita nga kita ikondinar sa impyerno…
        • He has all the ‘evidence’ he needs – all our sins / our immoral thoughts…
        • May ara siya sang tanan nga ‘ebidensya’ nga iya kinahanglan – tanan naton nga mga sala / aton immoral nga panghunahuna…
        • But Jesus – our defender – comes to our rescue – He points out one simple fact…
        • Pero si Jesus – aton defender – nagaabot sa pag rescue –
        • All our sins were paid for in full on the cross – we are found not guilty!
      • We have been forgiven – we are innocent…
      • Napatawad na kita – inosenti kita…
        • There are no levels of sinners – greater or lesser sinners – we are all just sinners…
        • Wala sang levels sang makasasala – dako ukon gamay nga makasasala – tanan kita makasasala…
        • We have all purchased our place in eternity with the ‘reward’ of our sin…
        • Tanan kita nagbakal sang lugar saw ala sing katapusan ang ‘padya’ sang aton sala…
        • Our hope – if we will believe – Jesus died for us so that we go instead to heaven!
        • Aton paglaom – kon kita magpati – nagpanginmatay si Jesus para sa aton agod makakadto kita sa langit!
        • God does not send good people to Hell – there are none!
        • Wala nagapadala ang Ginoo sang maayo nga mga tawo sa Impyerno – wala gid!
        • What is amazing is that because of Jesus – God sends sinners to Heaven!
        • Ang katingalahan amo tungod kay Jesus – ginpadala sang Ginoo ang mga makasasala sa Langit!
    • 4th – The rules for living in the city…
    • 4th – ang layi sa pag istar sa siyudad…
    • 1st – You could not leave…
    • 1st – indi ka makahalin…
      • The person found innocent – was only safe as long as they stayed in the city…
      • Ang tawo makit-an nga inosenti – ang safe lang basta indi siya maghalin sa siyudad…
      • If you left the city – and the family of the person you killed found you…
      • Kon maghalin ka sa siyudad – kag ang pamilya sang tawo nga napatay mo nakit-an ka…
      • They could avenge the death – kill you – and they would be innocent – not murder…
      • Magabalos sila sang kamatayon – patyon ka – kag sila mangin inosenti – indi pagpatay…
      • The person should have stayed in the protection of the city…
      • Ang tawo dapat indi maghalin sa siyudad…
      • Does that mean we have to stay in our refuge – stay in church…
      • Buot silingon dapat indi kita maghalin sa aton dalangpan- indi maghalin sa simbahan…
      • It is certainly a good idea to spend a lot of time in church…
      • Maayo nga ideya nga maghatag sang imo tion sa simbahan…
      • That is where we learn and grow – a place to strengthen our walk with Jesus!
      • Sa diin makatuon kita kag magtubo – ang lugar nga magpabakod sang aton panglakaton kaupod ni Jesus!
      • But we are not required to stay – we have been set free because…
      • Pero indi kita ginapilit nga magpabilin – kita mangin hilway tungod…
    • 2nd – The death of the High Priest…
    • 2nd – ang kamatayon sang Mataas nga Pari…
      • All those who were confined to the cities were then set free…
      • Tanan nga ara sa siyudad ang mangin hilway…
      • You could leave the city of refuge without fear of reprisal from the ‘Avenger’…
      • Makahalin ka lang sa dalangpan nga siyudad nga wala sing kahadlok of reprisal from the ‘Avenger’…
      • It seems strange that God would make the death of the high priest the key event…
      • Katingalahan ang mahimo sang Ginoo nga ang kamatayon sang mataas nga pari ang ‘key event’…
      • But it looked forward to the most important event in all of history…
      • Pero maga lantaw kita sa pinakaimportante nga hitabo sa history…
      • The death of our High Priest – Jesus…
      • Ang kamatayon sang aton Mataas nga Pari – Jesus…
      • Jesus is our High Priest – Hebrews 9:11 – and He died to set us free!
      • Si Jesus ang aton Mataas nga Pari – Hebreo 9:11 – kag napatay siya mangin hilway kita!
      • We should be living in fear of death – the avenger coming to make us pay for our sin…
      • Magakabuhi kita dapat sa kahadlok sa kamatayon – ang ‘avenger’ magakadto sa aton sa pagpabayad sa aton sang aton sala…
      • At best we should be stuck within the 4 walls of the church – our refuge…
      • But instead Jesus has set us completely free – given us new life!
      • Pero si Jesus ang nagpahilway sa aton – naghatag sa aton sang bag-o nga kabuhi!
      • Juan 8:36 – “Gan ikon ang Anak sang Dios amo ang magahilway sa inyo, mahilway gid kamo.”
  • 3rd – Law for murders… vs. 30-34
  • 3rd – layi sa pagpatay… vs. 30-34
    • All murderers must be executed…
    • Tanan nga manugpatay dapat patyon…
    • God’s establishes the Law for murder with the intent to protect/preserve life…
    • Ginhimo ini sang Ginoo ang Layi sa pagpatay para protektahan/preserve sang kabuhi…
    • He does it through the deterrent of the death penalty for murder…
    • Ginhimo Niya ini paagi sa ‘deterrent’ sang silot sa pagpatay para sa pagpatay…
    • God here shows that nothing is more precious than human life…
    • Ginpakita diri sang Ginoo nga wala na sang mas malahalon sang sa kabuhi sang tawo…
    • The reason – man is created in the image of God: body / soul / spirit…
    • Ang rason – gintuga ang tawo kaangay sa hitsura sang Ginoo: lawas / kalag / espiritu…
    • One of the premier characteristics of a Godly society is the ‘sanctity of life’
    • Contrast – muslims walk into malls and blow themselves up – homicide bomber…
    • Contrast – nagkadto ang mga muslim sa malls kag gin bombahan ini – homicide bomber…
    • Jews will take any victim – muslim or Jewish into the hospital to keep them alive…
    • Because the Jews believe in the ‘sanctity of life’ any life – created in the image of God
    • Tungod nagapati ang mga Judio sa ‘pagkabalaan sang kabuhi’ bisan ano nga kabuhi – gintuga nga kaangay sa Ginoo
    • You cannot accept a ransom for murder…
    • Indi ka makabaton sang ransom para sa pagpatay…
    • A murderer was not allowed to ‘pay’ for his crime in cash – buy his life back…
    • Ang manugpatay wala ginatugutan nga ‘magbayad’ sa ginhimo niya nga krimen – baklon ang iya kabuhi…
      • Every murdered had to be put to death for his crime…
      • Kada pagpatay
      • A person in a city of refuge – could not buy his freedom – pay off the avenger…
      • He had to wait till the death of the high priest before he could be free…
      • Kinahanglan niya maghulat hasta sa kamatayon sang mataas nga pari antis siya mahilway…
    • There is no other way to be set free apart from Jesus…
    • Wala na sang iban pa nga paagi ‘to be set free apart’ kay Jesus…
      • You can’t buy your way out of hell – your can’t earn your way into heaven…
      • Indi mo mabayran para makagguwa ka sa impyerno – indi mo mapangabudlayan ang imo alagyan pakadto sa langit…
      • There is no paying the priest – to give to you the ‘extra good works’ of the saints…
      • You cannot read enough passages of the Bible / you cannot offer enough prayers…
      • Indi madala nga magbasa ka sang Bibliya / indi ka makahalad sang mga pangamuyo…
      • You cannot give enough money to the poor – to make up for your sin…
      • Indi ka makahatag kwarta sa mga imol – para makuha ang imo sala…
      • The only way to be forgiven – the only way to be free – it is through Jesus Christ!
      • Ang isa lang gid ka paagi para patawaron – ang isa lang ka paagi para mangin hilway – paagi lang gid kay Jesu Cristo!
    • Numbers 36 – Keeping it in the family…
    • numero 36 – ang mga babayi nga nakabaton sang duta…
    • The daughters of Zelophehad… Read: Numbers 36:1-6
    • mga kabataan nga babayi ni Zelofehad… basaha: Numero 36:1-6
    • The leaders of the tribe of Manasseh came to Moses… vs. 1-5
    • Ang mga pangulo sang tribo ni Manase nagkadto kay Moises… vs. 1-5
    • God gave the daughters the right to inherit their father’s land – Numbers 27…
    • Ginhatagan sang Ginoo sang right ang mga kabataan nga babayi nga magpanubli sang duta sang ila amay – Numero 27…
      • But if those women (from Manasseh) married men from a different tribe…
      • Pero kon ato nga mga babayi (halin kay Manase) magpakasal sa lalaki halin sa lain nga tribo…
      • That land would become the possession of their husband’s tribe…
      • Ina nga duta mangin iya sang tribo sang iya bana…
      • If land isn’t redeemed before Jubilee – switched to the new owner – Leviticus 25…
      • Kon ang duta indi matubos antis sang Tuig sang Paghilway kag Pag-uli – mangin iya sang bag-o nga tag-iya – Leviticus 25…
      • When the Jubilee came – the land would be permanently lost to Manasseh…
      • Kon mag-abot ang Tuig sang Paghilway kag Pag-uli – ang duta madula na kay Manase…
    • I am impressed that the men of Manasseh figured this problem out…
    • I am impressed that mahibaluan ini sang mga tawo ni Manase ang ini nga problema…
      • They had to cross reference several different parts of God’s Word…
      • Because they studied God’s Word – they were able to avoid a potential problem…
      • Tungod gintun-an nila ang Pulong sang Ginoo – malikawan nila ang ini nga problema…
      • It is so important we take the time to get into God’s Word…
      • Importante nga maghatag kita sang tion sa Pulong sang Ginoo…
      • It is through God’s Word we learn to avoid the pitfalls of life we are so prone to fall into!
      • Paagi sa Pulong sang Ginoo makatuon kita nga malikawan ang kalaglagan sa kabuhi nga kita mahulog!
    • Marrying within the tribe… vs. 6-13
    • Magpamana sa ila lang nga tribo… vs. 6-13
    • Moses agreed and gave this command from the Lord…
    • Nagsugot si Moises kag naghatag sang sugo nga halin sa Ginoo…
      • If a woman was set to inherit the Land – she could only marry within her tribe…
      • Kon ang babayi magapanubli sang Duta – magpamana lang siya dapat sa iya lang ng tribo…
      • That way the Land would change family – but not change tribe…
      • Sa sina nga paagi ang Duta makadto sa lain nga pamilya – pero indi sa lain nga tribo…
      • No land was allowed to pass from one tribe to another…
      • Wala sang Duta nga ginatugutan nga magpasa halin sa isa ka tribo pakadto sa isa…
      • Each tribe was to make sure it held on to its allotted inheritance of land!
      • Ang kada tribo dapat sigurohon nga ang Duta makadto sa magapanubli sini!
    • When we get married – we need to marry ‘within our tribe’…
    • Kon kita kaslon – kinahanglan naton magpakasal ‘ sa aton tribu’…
      • * II Corinto 6:14 – “Indi kamo magpakighiusa sa mga wala nagatuo kay Cristo. Kay subong nga ang kasanag indi makaupod sa kadulom, ang maayo indi man makaupod sa malain.”
      • If someone is ‘religious’ and knows ‘about Jesus’ does not mean they are saved…
      • Kon ang tawo ‘relihiyoso’ kag nakabalo ‘parte kay Jesus’ indi buot silingon nga sila maluwas…
      • Don’t marry someone just because they are cute – marry one who loves the Lord…
      • Indi magpakasal sa tawo kay tungod sila cute – magpakasal sa tawo nga nagahigugma sa Ginoo…
      • Be very careful whom you choose to be your spouse – it is a permanent decision…
      • Mag-andam kon sin-o ang imo pillion nga pangasaw-on – permanenti na ina nga desisyon…
      • Find a man/woman who loves the Lord – not just in words – but also in actions…
      • Mangita sang lalaki/babayi nga nagahigugma sa Ginoo – indi lang paagi sa hambal – pero pati man sa aksyon…
      • Otherwise they might end up drawing you away from your walk with Jesus…
      • Sa ulihi magapalayo ini sang imo paglakat kaupod ni Jesus…
      • You might find you loose your inheritance in the Land!
      • Madula sa imo ang ginpanubli mo nga Duta!
